Diesels are more expensive to service, but there are additional maintenance requirements to ensure they outlast a petrol car. The biggest-selling diesel passenger vehicle is the dual-cab utility. Often, these vehicles have offroad driving ability as they are fitted with a 4WD system. This provides you with an advantage when camping in places only suitable for 4WD vehicles. Adventurous places such as Fraser Island.

The disadvantage is that a 4WD has an extra diff and transfer case that require oil replacement, whether you use it off-road or not.
